What is Chain of Custody?
Chain of Custody certifications ensure that our actions are as good as our intentions. It is the natural response to an evolving corporate culture, one that is as concerned with the social and environmental consequences of its decisions as it is with economic outcomes. |
|
Today, the umbrella of responsibility has expanded to include paper merchants and printers, agencies and independent designers. As a group, we must collectively demonstrate to our customers that we are providing “certified” products so our customers can satisfy their goals for responsible purchasing. This certification is called Chain of Custody. |
|
At Aspen Printing Services, the mills and manufactuers we represent support initiatives like SFI, FSC, and Green Seal. They implement practices such as water conservation, air-quality improvement, elemental chlorine free pulp, reforestation and alternative power sources such as windpower. |

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international organization whose mission is to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC certified products are manufactured from FSC certified paper products by mills which utilize fiber certified by the FSC.
Labels
There are seven different FSC labels. The label used on a specific product is directly related to its fiber makeup, which may include FSC fibers, recycled fibers, and post-consumer recycled fibers. |
|

You may display the FSC labels only if you have been certified by a FSC approved 3rd party auditor and have received the Chain-of-Custody Certification. |

SFI certified products are produced at mills which utilize fiber certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative program. Fiber coming from this program is certified based on a comprehensive system of principles, objectives, and performance measures developed by professional foresters, conservationists and scientists that combines the perpetual growing and harvesting of trees with the long-term protection of wildlife, plants, soil, and water quality. Under the SFI program, participating companies plant or grow more trees than are harvested each year. SFI is primarily a North American initiative. |

The product may carry the SFI label. |
